Specific Learning Outcomes

This course will be aimed at identifying what attendees know and need to know, and then moving them on in their thinking in a way that serves their planning needs within their own school contexts
  1. Using a pre-determined Big Idea or Topic as the basis, plan, in detail, an integrated unit for whole school or class use with strong links to the NZC vision, principles, values and key competencies
  2. Understand the Sparx Learning Path as a tool for developing sound pedegogical processes and higher order thinking skills in students
  3. Identify ways of developing Habits of Mind and Habits of Character in an integrated manner
* While this course can stand alone, it is recommended that attendees have attended “Developing Integrated Curriculum for the NZC” prior to attending this course


WHO IS THIS COURSE DESIGNED FOR?

Principals, Heads of Curricuum, DPs, staff teams, individual teachers of primary, intermediate and middle schools
 

WHAT RESEARCH IS THIS COURSE INFORMED BY?   

25 years of writing curriculum, including Sparx Resources, produced in 2010, and used in approximately 6% of NZ primary and intermediate schools in its first year

The Sparx Resources will be introduced, Inquiry Learning and Habits of Mind discussed, and, in passing, reference will be made to the work of John Hattie, Edward de Bono, Guy Claxton, Howard Gardner
