The Art Club

Anna Marie Holm

Are your art lessons bland and uninteresting?
Are you stuck for creative art projects?

Then this latest Art resource is a ‘must have’. After a quick glimpse through this well illustrated handbook, the broad range of unusual creative projects presented by Anna Marie Holm will immediately inspire art teachers.

Based on her experiences running a children’s afternoon Art Club in Denmark, Holm presents her philosophy of teaching in a series of art-making sessions recorded in her diary.

The Art Club

The written text is minimal in order to visually promote the projects through a large selection of excellent photographs. The activities covered will delight any creative child and range from ‘shouting paintings’ and ‘what colour is the word famous?’ to physically stimulating activities such as ‘crawling pictures’ and ‘how long can a paint brush be?”

All projects suit a range of age groups and can be adapted to meet the specific needs of any group or classroom situation. The aim is to include different sensory channels, allowing for original interpretations by each individual child.

Holm stresses the importance of allowing children to explore, research and create with no fixed goal in mind. “Children should not be put into straightjackets but given unlimited opportunities to grow”, she states. In keeping with the theoretical content of contemporary art and creativity, children are encouraged to venture into the unknown and continually challenge themselves in the safe environment of the workshop.
