Curriculum Questions

Where can I get a comprehensive programme that has been proven to inspire and support teachers in Christian schools?  Not all school leaders have the skills or time to do curriculum development, especially if they have a teaching role.

Teachers consistently report that Interact has helped them to grow personally in their faith and understanding of a biblical perspective, and to inspire their students with what they are learning together. Young teachers find the material very supportive as they develop breadth to their teaching skills.

Older teachers find the new ideas, gleaned and adapted from recent educational research, help them to upskill to the new educational environment or find new ways of doing familiar lessons.  Teachers new to Christian schools find the Biblical perspective assists them as they grapple with how to teach “Christianly” in a Christian school environment.

How can we ensure all the curriculum areas are covered in a balanced manner?

Interact gives a comprehensive four-year cycle of broad topics which can be used by schools to cover the basics of curriculum requirements in the subjects provided.  Interact has been used by Christian schools in a number of countries.  It comprehensively meets the curriculum requirements for both the NZ Curriculum, the Revised National Curriculum Statements of South Africa, and the NSW Syllabus in Years 1-8 in the following subjects: Science, Social Science (Human Society and Environment), Health and English.

How can we keep abreast of the changes in educational thinking?

Interact provides a framework which incorporates optional ideas based on Blooms’ Taxonomy, Edward de Bono’s Thinking Hats, Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences, and Inquiry Learning.  The updated Interact Curriculum is concerned to inspire and challenge students not simply to recall facts for tests, but to go beyond the acquisition of knowledge to develop critical thinking and reflective attitudes about the topic, and to ask questions about how their learning impacts who they are and what they do.  The Interact Learning Path, developed by Helen Pearson, provides a framework for learning that is in keeping with recent educational research and understanding about thinking and learning.
