NZ History Alive Resource IncludesNZ History Alive is comprised of four tapes dramatically telling stories from the perspective of eight New Zealand children. NZ History Alive makes history come alive for you and your children and develop an understanding of the flow of New Zealand history. It introduces the people of New Zealand history as real characters the children can understand. Purchase the NZ History Alive package Hi, my name is Helen Pearson and I developed the NZ History Alive package. When I was a primary teacher, I wasn’t sure how to teach about the Treaty of Waitangi, so I decided to call in the expert. I flew Dr Peter Lineham up from Massey University to speak with the children, and then to the parents in the evening. Peter was the most spellbinding storyteller. He told the story of Waitangi from the perspective of children viewing the proceedings, and we imagined them looking under the tentflaps and describing what they saw. Later, when I had my own children, I wanted them to hear that story, and others of New Zealand history. So I contracted Dr Lineham to write, and tell onto tape, stories of New Zealand children in history. I then developed a teacher manual with summarized information, activity ideas, question ideas, and photocopiable worksheets to go with it. Teachers throughout New Zealand have used these tapes and teacher resources, and, better still for me, my own children have listened to the stories over and over again. If you are needing some fresh inspiration, or if you don’t even know where to start when teaching New Zealand History, you need our help!
